Danville’s Newest Restaurant: The 616 (Part #1)

“Oh, wow.” Those were my words when I walked into “The 616” tonight. It’s Danville’s newest restaurant and it’s about to open to the public. The beautiful building is located at 616 North Main Street, so that’s how they got the name. They had a sneak preview tonight, and SouthsideCentral was there. In our first PhotoCentral article of the series, we’re going to walk into the restaurant and take a look at the food that was served tonight.

Let’s get started!

The 616 is a farm-to-table concept restaurant. That means that only fresh ingredients will be used, so the menu can change as frequently as weekly. And away we go!

We’re at 616 North Main Street. This historic building is on the National Register. New City Dance Space takes up the top floor, and The 616 is at ground level. Let’s head inside.

Now you can see why I said “Oh wow” as I walked inside.

Here’s tonight’s limited menu. The restaurant will have a full menu of appetizers, entrees and desserts when it’s open to the public. The menu will change often based on what fresh ingredients are available.

Here’s the Honey Truffled Deviled Eggs.

And here’s the freshly-made chicken salad.

The Misty Meadows Beef Brisket was served with fresh peppers on a fresh made roll. Yes, the word “fresh” is used a lot at this restaurant.

I love pralines. I love bacon. Oh yes, it’s Praline Bacon. Words can’t describe how delicious this was. Words can’t describe how delicious everything was, in fact.

If this “F” looks familiar to you, there’s a good reason why. It’s the “F” from the “OF” in the famous “HOME OF DAN RIVER FABRICS” sign over the Dan River White Mill building.

This area was originally known as “Neapolis”. The 616 has the Neapolis LIVE stage area where live music will be performed, adding an entertainment aspect to the farm-to-table restaurant concept.

And there you have the first part of our look at The 616. Folks, this place is going to be great. We’ve got more coming in this series here on SouthsideCentral!
