Wacky Jack don’t want no Islam at the old Halifax Elementary School!

Jack Dunavant is well-known for being a blowhard in Halifax County, but he’s setting a new record low with this one. Halifax Elementary School has been closed for a few years and it’s a property that has development potential. I can’t say that I totally agree with giving the property to a real estate developer in exchange for a large capital investment, but there can be other options worked out.
But oh no! That there Echelon Resources is “foreign”, with “foreign” meaning Not Jack Dunavant. Wacky Jack would love to buy that property and redevelop it in the way that he has redeveloped the old C.H. Friend Elementary School in South Boston (which he says is “ready for development” now). But if you’re on the fence about letting Jack take charge of the building, he gives you a great reason in his letter why you fools should let him take over…
“Dear Friends and Neighbors, I have grave concerns about the proposed sale of Halifax Elementary School to an out of town (“foreign”) investor Echelon, whose CEO has stated that it would be resold for profit; at that point the neighborhood, the town and the county all lose control of the destiny of this property. Those sales are usually to the highest bidder which could include organizations not compatible with the neighborhood. For instance, there is a radical Islamic enclave entrenched just twenty five miles away in Charlotte County. They are, reportedly, training ISIS fighters but no one knows for sure — the compound is locked and guarded. That neighborhood and the Board of Supervisors don’t want it, but they can’t rid of it. How could we deny an Islamic church or school? Islam is a political movement that has declared war on us; it is not a religion.
Jack Dunavant is, reportedly, a fearmongering bigoted idiot that is full of horsecrap. How could we indeed deny an Islamic church or school in the Town of Halifax? Here’s a hint, Jack. You can’t. As long as any organization meets the local requirements, you can’t discriminate on the basis of any religion… even a religion that you highly disagree with.
Maybe Jack Dunavant can turn the old Halifax Elementary School into something useful. If he can, I’m totally in favor of that happening. But when he uses scare tactics like he’s done in the past, he’s a pompous ass who deserves to be shouted down into the hole that he came out of.
In addition to being a loud-mouth bully, Jack is a certifiable lunatic and should be committed to a state insane asylum. It is a sad commentary on any community that elects him to anything.
