Super Saturday Southside at the Institute! (2/13)

Heading to college? Well, Danville’s Institute for Advanced Learning & Research is hosting Super Saturday Southside on Saturday, February 13th. It’s an event that will help students and parents look at sources of funding.

From our friends at the Institute…

Super Saturday Southside 2010 is set for Saturday, February 13th at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, located in Danville at 150 Slayton Avenie. The free event provides parents and students from across the region the opportunity to explore funding for college. Scheduled to run from 10 am until 1:30 pm, the event kicks off with registration at 9:45 am. All participating students will be entered in a drawing to receive $100 towards college textbooks; door prizes will also be awarded.

Information sessions included during the financial aid event include “Financial Aid 101”, “The Lowdown on Loans”, “Planning for College”, and “Seeking Scholarships” and professional financial aid counselors will be on hand to help interested families complete the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (Parents interested in help with the FAFSA should bring financial information with them. For additional information about the FAFSA, visit www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Super Saturday is co-sponsored by Averett University, Danville Community College, the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers, National College, and the J.T. Minnie Maude Charitable Trust. Event exhibitors, in addition to the event sponsors, include the BEST INITITIVE, the Commonwealth Scholars program, DPS Adult and Career Education, DCC Middle College, New College Institute (NCI), SCALE-UP, Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC), and the Tobacco Commission Loan Forgiveness Program.

This will be a great event to attend. We’re working on a story about the J.T.-Minnie Maude Charitable Trust, which is a relatively unknown source for college funding in the Southside area. You’ll be able to learn more about this organization at the Super Saturday Southside event. We hope you’ll attend this event.
