Last update: Danville City Commonwealth’s Attorney Race – Update #1
Let’s take a look at what’s happened since the last update.
News: Claudette Robertson is keying in on one issue that gets her name recognized somewhat. “Open file discovery” – Letting the defense see exactly what evidence that the Commonwealth has against the defendant. Every other jurisdiction around Danville uses open file discovery and the nearby CA’s say it’s worked good for their caseload. Bill Fuller, the outgoing Danville CA, doesn’t believe in the policy, so Mike Newman isn’t going to go away from that line. Martin had a slight mis-step with his statement on the policy but corrected himself very well to the newspaper.
Open file discovery sounds like it’s a great idea that works well for the other jurisdictions. Robertson scores some points for making this an issue in a race where real issues will be sparse. Newman loses some points for the “Change is completely bad, not gonna think about it” approach, while Martin holds steady regarding this issue.

Newman’s tactic should be “same as before”.
Martin should go for “Older, experienced, but same as it ever was”.
Robertson’s strategy should be “Out with the old, in with the new”.
I pretty much called that one so far, eh?
Advertising seems to be a toss-up right now with one big exception. Robertson’s moving van with her name & face plastered over it is very eye-catching and she’s smart enough to keep it parked in various locations all over town. Newman’s getting his name out to the public and Martin is getting out there in person at events.

Prediction of the popular vote: I don’t see any of the candidates getting more than 42% of the vote at this time.
OddsMakers of the candidate winning the election: All three candidates are tied.

I am still going for Newman. So Claudette has a truck with her picture on it moving it around. Some say she is pretty on the eye SO! That does not mean she can be a touch prosecutor. Mike is in the office now. He is prosecuting the criminals. He is working the cases and it is working. He has been prosecuting cases. Ok, Jim and claudette worked in the prosecuters offices and chose to go into private practice. Now they want to prosecute!. I say Newman needs to be elected Danville’s Next Commonwealth Attorney. I have heard him speak and he is experienced enough for the job. He too is keen on the female eye ( ha ha)
You may have heard him speak but you shouldn’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth. Sure he gets a lot of good publicity, because he calls the paper everytime he wins a case. But you don’t hear about it when he loses a case- like the rape case he lost a few months back. He’s all about publicizing himself and getting power. He may claim to be “pro-victim” but that couldn’t be further from the truth….why don’t you ask Bill Fuller what he thinks of him? I think everyone would be surprised by the answer.
