Danville City Council – LIVE! (6/5/18)

Folks, I’m going to be straight with you. This article is beyond repair because I was trying too many new tech stuff at one time.

I’m just going to leave the article how and where it is and learn from my lessons. I’ll do better next time.

For happenings at the meeting, go to the SouthsideCentral Facebook page, the Southside News & Views Facebook group or my own personal Facebook page.

Don’t forget to follow SouthsideCentral on Twitter & Instagram too!

I know what doesn’t work, so I’ll improve on the next LIVE! coverage article.

We’re LIVE! at Danville’s Municipal Building for all three of Danville City Council’s meetings tonight. Keep refreshing this page often for the latest happenings, comments and photos. Also keep a check on our other social media channels for other goodies.

Let’s get started!

We’re underway!

There’s a 7-2 straw poll vote for a new budget with the 1/2% meals tax. This would cut a lot of things including ~$250K from the school system.

City Manager Ken Larking is getting a little badass again (and I love it). He says “Either cut a service out or not. Don’t partially fund something and make us do it poorly.” Oh yeah, we’re at the early special budget work session.

We’re in the business session now. There’s a lot of old and new business, and we’ll add that in the editing process. The big thing is the eventual vote on the meals tax increase. We’ll cover that in detail when we get to it.

The first speaker in the public comment segment questions his electric meter readings, but then goes off the rails.

The meals tax flies through with our projected 7-2 vote. I’m semi-surprised that there’s no discussion.

Ugh. This just isn’t working because I have too much going on
