Danville Planning Commission – LIVE! (8/10/15)

The best local government coverage keeps coming here at SouthsideCentral. We’re now LIVE! at Danville City Hall for today’s 3 PM Planning Commission meeting. Be sure to refresh this page often because we’ll have the latest happenings, photos and commentary added on a continuous basis. We’ll clean the page up in the editing process. Let’s get started.

Today’s meeting will be a simple one. We’ll start off with a rezoning request for the Five Forks area. The Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority has been buying up property at the corner of Jefferson St. and Loyal St. The ultimate goal is to bring business activity back to the area. Next, Grace & Main Ministries is asking for a Special Use Permit for an urban agriculture setup at the dead-end of Moffett St. Finally, commissioners will endorse mandated changes to the procedures for granting zoning variances and will also adjust the city’s comprehensive plan.

We’re underway.

Everybody here except Ann Evans, who’s on vacation.

Dolores Reynolds, HELLO!

While the meeting opens, Mayor Sherman Saunders comes and goes to City Manager Joe King’s office.

The Five Forks proposal has one speaker who owns Jefferson St. property asking what the plans are. Ken Gillie gives her the concept drawings made by Hill Studio. It passes 6-0. Now to Grace & Main’s request.

The discussion moves to making sure that the specified three chickens is worded as three hens. Cock a doodle do stuff or the lack of.

All the administrative items pass. Around the horn time and we’re done. I’ll add more tonight.
