Danville City Council LIVE! (7/1/2014)

We have three articles in the “Must Write” columns and more that need editing, but do you think that’s going to stop us from having back-to-back-to-back LIVE! articles? Not a chance, baby!

SouthsideCentral is LIVE! at Danville City Hall for tonight’s Danville City Council meeting. You know what to do. Refresh the page often for the latest. The meeting starts at 7PM, and we’ll start our coverage earlier. Don’t forget to follow @sosidecentral on Twitter and LIKE our Facebook page!

Let’s get it started…

Our coverage will start around 6:30 PM.

Updates on the 2014 Clean Up, Fix Up, Paint Up month from Jerry Rigney and then a presentation from American Legion Post 325 in the public comment section.

Tyquon Graves speaks asking for more youth activities. I’m highly impressed with his speech asking for individual council members to work with the youth. Larry Campbell asks what can be done. Graves responds with “to get to know you better”. Great answer!

American Legion Riders will be coming through Danville in August. It’s a great event for a great cause. 400-500 will be stopping in Danville on August 18th at Post 325 around 5PM. Proceeds go to children that have lost parents in military service.

Tonight’s new business is appropriating money for a Homeland Security grant for fire department personal protective gear. We’ll also have an ordinance that will add $5 to every Danville criminal and traffic case to pay for the new electronic summons system.

On to the business part and then the around the horn comment time.

No discussion of the fire department gear. Police Chief Philip Broadfoot explains the electronic summons system. It will transmit driver’s license information directly to the courts to make errors less likely. This will not work on out of state licenses. This passes 9-0.

Around the horn starts with Joe King introducing Telly Tucker, new economic development director.

James Buckner does his thanks. Gary Miller lays it on Duke Energy for the high-risk dam issue.

More coming up on SouthsideCentral!
