Stop. Please Stop. Stop. STOP!!!

Yes, I’m asking you to read an 18 page court decision. Yes, it’s that enjoyable of a read.

I’ll give you two words and you’ll understand why. Merle Rutledge.

Among other things, you’re about to learn that he claimed to have “mental anguish” when stopped by the police because it was on Valentine’s Day.

I can’t make this stuff up, folks.

Merle Rutledge went to federal court late in 2013 (again) and tried to file a frivolous lawsuit (again) and ask for Lots-O-Money (again).

This time, Senior Federal Court Judge Jeckson Kiser had seen enough. The court document below is a quite entertaining read of Merle Rutledge’s previous idiotic lawsuits and his attempts to avoid having to pay the filing fees needed to start the process. You’ll read how Kiser has now blocked Merle Rutledge from filing any more lawsuits unless they’re approved by a judge beforehand. Enjoy this.

Now that you’re read this, look at Judge Kiser’s Footnote #8 on Page 12…

I have reason to believe that Plaintiff is participating in lawsuits filed by other pro se litigants before this Court. In particular, I believe that Plaintiff has counseled Mr. Lafayette Hodnett and Mr. Michael Elder concerning their actions against the Town of Chatham and the City of Danville, respectively. … The complaints in those cases evidence a structure, format, and narrative style that is remarkably similar to that of Plaintiff’s typical filings

Then look at Section #5 in the actual enjoinder (at the end of the document)…

Plaintiff is hereby enjoined from providing legal advice or counsel to any other person or entity, and is advised that the unauthorized practice of law is a Class 1 Misdemeanor in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Here’s some news for you. Merle Rutledge was charged with practicing law without a license and was convicted on July 12th in Danville General District Court. He was fined $300, but has appealed the general district court’s verdict to Danville Circuit Court.

This time, he’s got a real lawyer representing him. Maybe he’s learning his lessons now.

Danville’s premier low-level troublemaker never seems to quit. His only skill seems to be wasting the time of government officials and being an all-around pain-in-the-@$$. As long as he’s looking at grass from the green side, he’ll always be the latter. Hopefully this decision will prevent him from further being the former.

Have you ever checked out his barely-literate blog? It’s quite entertaining at times! If he was educated in the Danville Public Schools, I want a refund on a portion of my taxes.

  • You have the freedom to write whatever you want to write. Interesting article until you read mines!

  • Keep talking about me! I love the publicity!
