(Yet another) Martinsville taser meeting set for Tuesday

And Southside’s own version of Al Sharpton still isn’t going to get anywhere. Who knew?

Meeting slated in city on Taser case

William “Avon” Keen has to do something to stay in the news. He’s been milking the spotlight from this kid who made a stupid decision to run at a cop. Remember, the kid was 17 years old and had a BAC of .22, but Keen’s never addressed that issue (of course). This is one of Keen’s attempts to get attention, and he even tried to throw an idiotic Taser question into the first Danville’s Sheriff’s forum.

I’m wondering why this meeting wouldn’t be open to the public, because it’s about a public policy and it’s with public officials. Go figure.

Here’s my favorite part of the article…

Coleman said that would include things such as informing the public on how to handle encounters with law enforcement, such as if they were pulled over, to avoid a situation in which a Taser would be used.

How about “Do what the cop tells you to do.”?

Avon Keen is a pure joke. He does not care that this 17yr old came at the police. Each day my husband kisses our children and I to go off to protect and serve this community and as his wife i want him to come home. Using his training and making the best decisions has always bought him home. I expect him to do what is necessary (within the law) to return home to us each day. When will we stop making excuses and allowing this young people to be responsible for their actions. MR KEEN needs to put some energy in getting the guns out of these young persons hands and speak to them about how drugs and alcohol only affects your mind and body negatively. Most people go into work knowing what to expect; Police officers go to work not knowing what the day will hold for them.

Lets go back to 2002. Was anything said when Roy Inge murdered Deputy Frankie Betterton in cold blood? Did any groups come out to say that was a hate crime against Deputy Betterton? Did anyone go after Roy for what he did? So why is anyone saying anything at all about a stupid taser now and a death of a young boy that would not listen to an officer telling him to stop. Next time the perp might not be so lucky do we just just rid of the taser and just shoot with the revolver. and then what?

  • […] of these racial “controversies” that Avon Keen has thrown himself into. Not me, baby! I remember his efforts in that case in Martinsville when a drunk teenager got tased by a police offi…. Of course, the police officer was ruled justified because the teenager was attacking him. I also […]
