Let’s take a look at what’s happened since the last update.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

News<\/em>: Claudette Robertson is keying in on one issue that gets her name recognized somewhat. “Open file discovery” – Letting the defense see exactly what evidence that the Commonwealth has against the defendant. Every other jurisdiction around Danville uses open file discovery and the nearby CA’s say it’s worked good for their caseload. Bill Fuller, the outgoing Danville CA, doesn’t believe in the policy, so Mike Newman isn’t going to go away from that line. Martin had a slight mis-step with his statement on the policy but corrected himself very well to the newspaper. <\/p>\n

Open file discovery sounds like it’s a great idea that works well for the other jurisdictions. Robertson scores some points for making this an issue in a race where real issues will be sparse. Newman loses some points for the “Change is completely bad, not gonna think about it” approach, while Martin holds steady regarding this issue.<\/p>\n

Breakdown<\/em>: Does the public know what open file discovery really is? Does the average voter care enough to even consider it as in issue? All three candidates are proceeding along with the campaign strategies that I predicted in the last update… <\/p>\n

Newman\u2019s tactic should be \u201csame as before\u201d.
\nMartin should go for \u201cOlder, experienced, but same as it ever was\u201d.
\nRobertson\u2019s strategy should be \u201cOut with the old, in with the new\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I pretty much called that one so far, eh?<\/p>\n

Advertising seems to be a toss-up right now with one big exception. Robertson’s moving van with her name & face plastered over it is very eye-catching and she’s smart enough to keep it parked in various locations all over town. Newman’s getting his name out to the public and Martin is getting out there in person at events. <\/p>\n

Prediction of the popular vote: I don’t see any of the candidates getting more than 42% of the vote at this time.<\/p>\n

OddsMakers of the candidate winning the election: All three candidates are tied.<\/p>\n
