There’s a giant buzz in the SouthsideCentral area about the proposed energy plant that might locate in the new industrial park. Until a contract is signed, I’m not going to believe it. Here’s why.<\/p>\n

Officials working to sign first tenant for mega-park<\/a><\/p>\n

Here are some excerpts that make me wonder if this is going to work out in the long run…<\/p>\n

AMP may build a natural gas-fired, 270- to 550-megawatt electricity generating plant in the southwest corner of site<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

May. I may<\/em> win the lottery.<\/p>\n

Danville Deputy City Manager Joe King said the deal isn\u2019t final yet, but commented that it is \u201cclose.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You know what “close” is good for.<\/p>\n

But first, AMP wants assurances from both the city and the county that the plant\u2019s water, wastewater and natural gas needs will be met.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hello? Boing? If a company is going to build a plant like this, every governmental body in the world would do anything possible to get that company anything it needed to make their business plan work. <\/p>\n

Ok, all of those are just weasel words for now. But I’ve got a big reason why I’ve got doubts about a big energy company building the “Plant of the Millennium” in the middle of a giant forest.<\/p>\n

Cinergy pulled this stunt on this area back in 2000<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Does anybody else remember this? This idea was yet another in the lines of “Saviors of the Southside” yet fell completely apart when Cinergy said “Hey, the market’s changed. We’re outta here. Ha ha. Suckers!”<\/p>\n
