The Rockingham County (NC) Sheriff’s Office is reporting a fraud case involving the Facebook web site. Here’s the rundown of the case.<\/p>\n
Andrea Hancock (28) reported \u201cchatting\u201d on Facebook. While doing so, she began to chat with a person identifying herself as a former high school friend. The victim believed the person to be one she had played volleyball with in high school. During the chat, the person claimed to be in England and had just been mugged at gunpoint. This person claimed to have lost everything except her passport and in need of $800 to get back home.<\/p>\n
The victim informed the person that she would only be able to send $150 and did so by Western Union on July 9th. The victim has since located her high school friend, and determined she had not been in England and was not the person the victim had been \u201cchatting\u201d with on Facebook.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
