JEFF HUBBARD FOR SCHOOL BOARD<\/p>\n
\u201cWORKING FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE\u201d<\/p>\n
I have always wanted to be involved and work in the community but work obligations often prevented or limited how involved I could actually be.<\/p>\n
When I started working at Averett University a lot of doors were opened that allowed me to get involved in the community and with the schools. I was able to work on the PTA at Johnson, volunteered at Bonner, worked with the band booster club at GW and I was also fortunate enough to serve as a Scout Leader for a few years. I helped in the selection process of a new principal and vice principal for Bonner and worked on a committee to help prioritize safety issues at the schools.<\/p>\n
In seeking ways to stay engaged and be more involved I reflected on my involvement with school activities and how enjoyable and rewarding it is working with the youth. Seeing the potential and listening to their dreams and aspirations of what they want to be. Sometimes it\u2019s a doctor, lawyer, biologist, engineer or athlete, they all are great dreams.<\/p>\n
Wanting to help make those dreams come true and have the greatest impact helped lead to the decision to seek a seat on the School Board this May.<\/p>\n
Our schools have gotten a lot of negative attention as of late and I know that there are challenges being faced by the school system, but I also believe that we have a good system that can overcome those challenges and what sometimes seems to be a bad perception of our schools and our youth.<\/p>\n
If elected I plan to work with the other School Board members for a brighter future. A good education opens the door to that brighter future and I will work to make sure that every child has the best opportunity possible to make their dreams come true.<\/p>\n
