But first…

As we walk away from the light (and the locked door, the dead mall office, the piles of junk and the mysterious boxes of Chinese Crap), we notice a fluorescent light ballast complete with tubes just laying against the wall. One more bizarre thing, eh?

Although the exterior signage says “Pennrose”, this directional sign clearly has “Penn” & “Rose” as two separate words. I think I speak for everybody when I say “Who cares?” Heh.

Here’s a wide look at the dead storefront that had the glass doors just sitting in the entrance. There’s more garage sale crap in the display windows that you will never get a chance to buy even if you wanted to. And why would you want to?

Would you like a drink of cold refreshing water from the fountain? Well, you’re not going to get that here. The fountain’s water supply has been cut off, it’s unplugged and it’s rusted so badly that rust stains have gone down the wall. However If you need to take iron supplements, here’s something for you. Yuck.

I’m just going to let this photo stand for itself without any comment. Well, I do need to tell you that this is not part of Pennrose Mall’s Christmas decorations.

Let’s take a closeup view of the Bucket Bonanza. I think I’ve counted 31 buckets and three tubs to catch the leaks from the roof. Also note that we have more gumball machines with petrified gumballs and a kiddie ride that may or may not work.

This is the former location of the HodgePodge store. I bought my mother Christmas presents from here in the 1970’s. The windows are now filled with more garage sale junk that nobody could buy if they wanted to.

Belk’s new logo sign is the freshest and most modern thing in the mall. It goes quite well with the missing ceiling tiles and water stains. You know what? Let’s go into Belk and see how nice the store looks!

Or let’s don’t. Belk has closed off their mall entrance and even gone to the effort of removing the handles from the doors. I guess they don’t want their customers running the Bucket Bonanza obstacle course, then slipping and falling from the roof leaks.

And that’s the end of Part #6. We’ve almost made it to the finish line of our strange journey and we’ll head out the doors in the final article.
