You’ll notice that the headline doesn’t say “LIVE!” and that’s because I believe it’s potentially unsafe to hold tonight’s regularly scheduled meeting and I’m not going. I’ll just tell you what will happen so you can protest with me by staying at home like they should have done.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Let’s start it off with SouthsideCentral’s position on holding the meeting as scheduled.<\/p>\n

SouthsideCentral strongly condemns the decision of Danville City Council to have their regularly scheduled meeting at 7 PM tonight. Although most roads are clear for travel now, sub-freezing temperatures have the potential of leaving icy patches on the roads tonight. SouthsideCentral believes it is unsafe and unwise to put the City Council Members, city staff and interested citizens at potential risk when there is no urgent or time-sensitive matters that have to be handled tonight. We strongly urge all Danville City Council members to not attend tonight’s meeting so that it will be cancelled for lack of a quorum.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So there. Let’s tell you what will happen at the meeting.<\/p>\n

  1. Sherman Saunders will call the meeting to order. Hopefully, four or less council members will be present and the meeting will be cancelled due to lack of a quorum… but I doubt it.<\/li>\n
  2. Lee Vogler will do the prayer and lead the Pledge of Allegiance.<\/li>\n
  3. The minutes will be approved.<\/li>\n
  4. No citizens will speak.<\/li>\n
  5. Four citizens will be appointed to boards.<\/li>\n
  6. First reading of an ordinance to spend some additional “unused” money to help in the completion of the Riverwalk Trail.<\/li>\n
  7. A request for VDOT to approve matching fund for a pedestrian\/bike lane on the MLK bridge will pass unanimously.<\/li>\n
  8. An around the horn session that will praise Public Works for snow removal efforts. We’ll watch the around the horn session to see if anybody piggybacks on Lee Vogler’s statement two weeks ago.<\/a><\/li>\n
  9. Adjournment and smoke break time.<\/li>\n
  10. Work session will have Rick Drazenovich talk about what it would take to convert some city vehicles to compressed natural gas for fuel, and Michael Adkins will go over the monthly financial statement.<\/li>\n
  11. A closed session is on the agenda for legal counsel, but since the coal ash attorney meeting that was scheduled for 5:30 PM was cancelled, this one may be cancelled as well.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
