Danville City Council – LIVE? (7/19/16)

Yep, you read that right. It’s LIVE with a question mark, because tonight’s meeting is quite void of “hot” or interesting content. These types of meeting happen around this time of the year. So, I’m seriously considering passing on going to the meeting.

But don’t worry, I’m going to tell you everything that will happen. If I go, you’ll get photos. If not, you’ll still know what went on. Let’s get that started now.

Here’s the gameplan for the business section. Let’s pull out the Big Board for you.

  • Sherman Saunders will lead the prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Someone will get a proclamation honoring July 24th – 30th as American Legion State Baseball Week.
  • Danville Regional Medical Center CEO Alan Larson will speak with his quarterly(?) update on hospital activities.
  • If Leslie Smith reads this and sends a copy of his speech to SouthsideCentral, we’ll be glad to publish it unedited. Hint hint, Leslie!
  • The public comment section is next.
  • The minutes will be approved. The minutes are always approved.
  • The spots on city boards & commissions reserved for council members will be officially approved.
  • In new business, the fiscal year 2017 capital improvement bonds will be approved and a potential refinancing of existing bonds will be authorized.
  • Council will then approve a support resolution for the RIFA Cane Creek Centre bond refinancing.
  • Then, council will move the next meeting to Thursday, August 4th to let members attend the National Night Out ceremonies around the city on Tuesday, August 2nd.
  • The around the horn section wraps things up.

Next, we’ll move to the work session. Here’s the quick Big Board for that.

  • The minutes from last month’s work session will be approved.
  • Council will quickly talk about a property swap between the city and Robert Woodall Chevrolet near the Union Street dam. This swap will get rid of an Riverwalk Trail encroachment problem. This will go on the August 4th business agenda and be approved then.
  • Finance Director Michael Adkins will then go over preliminary end of fiscal year reports for 2016. Everything is looking very good with no real shortfalls in any category that affects the budget. We’ll be doing a NumbersCentral on that this week.
  • There will then be a closed meeting for “personnel matters” and the final around the horn session after that.

That’s it. That’s all that will happen. But hey, now you know it in advance. Don’t forget that you can watch the business session on River City TV. That’s channel 10 on Danville’s Comcast cable system. The city will also stream tonight’s business meeting LIVE! on their website.

We’ve got more coming up here on SouthsideCentral!
