Let’s see what’s UP! and DOWN! in this edition.
UP! is some of that good tasty stuff served in a mason jar. DOWN! is some bad stinky stuff on the bottom shelf of the ABC store. You’re lying if you’re telling me that you have no idea what I’m talking about. Let’s fill up a Big Board.
- Thumbs UP! to Register & Bee photographer and occasional reporter Matt Bell. His photo skills are great enough for an automatic second Thumbs UP! just on their own, but he’s getting this one because of his great article that he wrote on the “HOME” sign and its background. It was well researched and documented, and Bell’s photography was the finishing touch that made the article perfect.
- Thumbs UP! to the City of Danville for restoring the historical marker on the Danville Museum’s grounds. Fred Shanks led the charge on this and the process worked perfectly. I guess I could give a Thumbs DOWN! to the city for ruining the conspiracy theories saying that the marker would never go back up in “yet another example of the city erasing history”. Heh.
- Thumbs UP! to the Danville Historical Society for their efforts in saving, preserving and now displaying the “HOME” sign in Danville’s River District. All of the money used for this effort was raised by private donations. Sadly, there’s a lot of people that are thinking that the city used taxpayer money for this effort, but they didn’t.
- Finally, Thumbs DOWN! to the death of the Lucky Table restaurant. Yes, there was a Lucky Table Italian restaurant in Danville and it was open for about four months (at most). It was located in the old Rax building across from Woodall Chevrolet. That location is bad enough because they’re little visibility and the restaurant killed itself by not doing much advertising (did they even advertise?). If nobody really knows that you’re open for business, it’s hard for you to stay open for long.
