LightningRound! (12/13/15)

We’ve got a lot of Christmas related happenings coming up, so there’s lightning on the horizon.

Hands on your buzzers, players. It’s time for the LightningRound!

The LightningRound format is for items that aren’t quite big enough for their own article, but need mentioning. Let’s play!

  • This one could go as a Thumbs UP! item, but it deserves more than just a quick one-liner. The Danville Family YMCA, Intertape & Womack Electric Supply teamed up this Christmas season to provide over 466 bicycles for children. There’s still time for you to get involved and help needy families out with some Christmas assistance.
  • One of those ways is to support Monday night’s “Turkeython” that will be televised on WMDV-TV. Stop by the WMDV studios at 3334 US 29 N and drop off a turkey or ham for God’s Storehouse between 6:30 & 8:00 PM. Thanks go to Sheila Baynes & Jessica Griffith for getting plans together for this and to Dan Valley Foods for having a frozen truck at the TV station to keep the donations frozen. There’s a Food Lion 1/4 mile away from the telethon site (at the Market Square shopping center), so there’s the place for you to drive by and get one.
  • Another way to help out is by volunteering for this year’s Danville Community Christmas Dinner. The 27th annual event will be held at Danville’s Community Market from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. You can help provide a traditional meal to those in need or alone on Christmas Day by calling 434-791-0001. The answering service will get your information to a volunteer who will contact you with details. This year’s event will be a bit different from the past, with doors opening at 9:30 AM, coffee & donuts available 10 AM and the meal will be served from 11 AM to 1 PM. Transportation and home deliveries won’t be available this year and there won’t be a gift area. If you can’t volunteer but want to help with a donation, either call 434-791-0001 for information or mail your donation to Community Christmas Dinner, P.O. Box 2654, Danville, VA 24541
  • Wayne Alan, owner of The Historic North Theatre, is once again putting on the “Magic of Christmas Stage Illusion Show” this year. I got a chance to see part of the show this past Saturday night and it’s amazing. Go the The Historic North Theatre’s website for more information and to get tickets. This is a terrific show for the family and the ticket prices are quite reasonable, especially for the amount of entertainment that you get. Wayne Alan is an master at showmanship and this show will not disappoint you one bit.

All righty, this LightningRound is now over. We’ve got more coming up here on SouthsideCentral!
