The Dead Pennrose Mall – Part #5

We’ve reached a critical point in our PhotoCentral journey through Reidsville’s deceased Pennrose Mall. When we left you in Part #4, we had finally had enough of the decaying mall and were heading to the mall office to get some answers.

Let’s see what happened. Hee Hee.

Here’s the links to the first four articles in this series: Part #1Part #2Part #3Part #4

We’re heading down the hallway to the Pennrose Mall office, and the fun continues!

Here’s the first door that we encounter. Surpise! It’s locked and the mini-blinds look like they’re 93 years old. However, whatever was behind this door took Mastercard & visa for payments.

Ta-da! We’ve arrived at the Pennrose Mall management office and the office is as dead as the rest of the mall. There are posters taped up from local events back in April 2014 and I’m betting that was the last time somebody was actually inside this office.

You might ask how did we know this was the mall office? I’m glad you asked that question! It’s clearly because of this professionally-made sign that looks like stick-on lettering slapped onto a piece of broken plastic.

here beside the mall office, we find a few more buckets (god knows they have buckets here!) and a stack of old vinyl records. Surprisingly, Pennrose Mall’s canned music system was blasting away all throughout the mall. On our Journey down this hallway, we were serenaded buy a bizarre version of Wham’s “Careless Whisper” performed on a harp.

Across the hallway from the dead mall’s dead office, we find this mysterious pile of junk. We’ve got a yellow plastic piece of something sitting in a ceramic planter. Apparently, somebody got bored while painting the planter when they were halfway though the job. We also have a plastic trash can that could be used anywhere in the mall to catch rook leaks, and some kind of dollhouse that looks like it’s been through a tornado and just landed here.

There’s a glass door to the back side of Pennrose Mall here, but (say it with me!) it’s locked. Here we find two more plastic totes filled with junk and a plastic container. As before, I have no idea what the hell these things are doing here.

In this storage room that may have been a store at one time, we have stacked Mysterious Boxes Of Imported Chinese Crap that appear to have never been opened. Because I’m an investigative reporter, I tried running the codes on the boxes through every database I could find and still came up with nothing. Another Pennrose Mall Mystery!

Let’s take a look inside the abandoned mall management office. We have some junk, two coffeemakers, grocery bags full of junk, a Reidsville Review newspaper, lots of bottled water, wet floor signs and more junk. Those blue and red stripes are from the glass reflection of my shirt, by the way.

It looks like my questions about this decaying mall will go unanswered for now, so that’s the end of Part #5 of this weird journey. We’ve got two more parts left in this PhotoCentral series and they’re coming up here on SouthsideCentral!
