We’ve told you that the 8th annual Bright Leaf Brew Fest is the place to be on Saturday afternoon. Let’s talk about some things happening in the event.

Let’s do a special edition Bright Leaf Brew Fest Big Board!

  • Tickets are just $27 in advance and you can get yours now by clicking on this link. The event is close to selling out so get your tickets quickly.
  • In between the eight musical acts on two stages Saturday, Grammy award winning Danville native Tony Rice will be honored by the city with a proclamation. Rice won the 1983 Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance with the group “The New South”. The International Bluegrass Music Association inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2013 and has named him Instrumental Performer of the Year six times. His group has also won Instrumental Group of the Year three times and Instrumental Album of the Year three times.
  • If you’re coming from out of town or simply don’t want to drive for the event, Comfort Inn & Suites is offering a special room rate. Call them at (434) 793-2000 and mention the Bright Leaf Brew Fest when making your room reservations and you’ll get that rate.
  • Danville Transit will also be running a free trolley service from the Comfort Inn & Suites to the front of Averett University (West Main St.) to the Bright Leaf Brew Fest. The route will run from 1:30 to 8:30 PM.
  • Some of this year’s Bright Leaf Brew Fest profits will go to the Danville Area Humane Society.

Golden Leaf Bistro will be the food supplier at the year’s Bright Leaf Brew Fest. Here’s a list of what they’ll have for sale.

  • Jalapeno Cheddar IPA Soup served in a locally baked Sourdough Bread Bowl
  • Southwestern Chili topped with Cheddar Cheese and served in a locally baked Sourdough Bread Bowl
  • 1/4lb All Beef Pretzel Wrapped Hot dogs with condiments
  • Crab and Corn Hush puppies served with a Sweet Chili Dipping Sauce
  • Fried Chicken Wings with House Sweet BBQ Sauce or Honey Sriracha Hot Sauce served with Celery Sticks and Blue Cheese or Ranch Dressing
  • Garlic Parmesan French Fries with Grain Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

Oh yeah! It’s Saturday starting at 3PM. If you were one of the lucky people that bought a VIP ticket before they sold out, it starts at 2PM for you. But tickets are still available! Click on the banner below and get yours now!

I have a few questions. Why is there only one food vendor? When food is “for sale”, a choice of vendors is what I would expect. $27 for a ticket and you only have one place to purchase food. Is that a monopoly or special favor from the city or the result of a consensus of citizens who voted on the vendor they most preferred or what? What is the “honor” to Tony Rice? Heck, Danville has never invited him to perform here. Yes, Averett University had him several years ago ( and it was a fabulous show), but Danville has not had much interest until now.

    • The Bright Leaf Brew Fest is not a City of Danville event. The committee handles food concessions in whatever way that they want.

As for the “honor” to Tony Rice, he’ll get a proclamation from the city, recognition from Robert Hurt’s office and a special recognition from the Bright Leaf Brew Fest.
