And away we go…

7:00 PM – The polls have just closed. Results should be starting to show up in about 15 minutes.

7:10 PM – We’re watching to see if the Virginia State Board of Elections’ website will meltdown under all the stress. It’s crashed for the last two elections. Nothing has been reported in yet.

7:15 PM – We’ve got a good feeling that at least one and maybe up to three Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors incumbents will lose their reelection bids tonight.

7:18 PM – We’d like to point out that the Danville Register & Bee has started a live blog for tonight’s election results. Imitation is the best form of flattery.

7:21 PM – The Chatham precinct is the first one to report in Pittsylvania County. Strong support for Mark Scarce (Clerk of Court) & Vincent Shorter (Treasurer). That support is not statistically significant, of course.

7:30 PM – We’re very close to making our first projection on the 20th District State Senate race between Bill Stanley & Kim Adkins.

7:35 PM – Incumbent Tim Barber is looking very strong against challenger Gracie Mays in the Tunstall District for the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors. Projection is very close for that race as well.

7:40 PM – PROJECTION: Bill Stanley will defeat Kim Adkins in the 20th State Senate district election. #VaSen20

7:45 PM – Mark Scarce takes a 71-29 percent lead over R.J. Weaver in the PittsCo Clerk of Court race. Way larger than lead than I expected at this point. Not ready to project yet.

7:50 PM – PROJECTION: Elton Blackstock will be reelected to the Staunton River seat on the PittsCo Board of Supervisors.

7:55 PM – PROJECTION: Tim Barber will defeat Gracie Mays in the Pittsylvania County Tunstall District Board of Supervisors election.

8:00 PM – Fred Clark is cruising in the Halifax County Sheriff’s race. Chris Hudson only has 6% of the vote. Wow.

8:05 PM – PROJECTION: Ronald Scearce defeats Roy Ford for the open Westover District seat on the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors.

8:09 PM – PROJECTION: Fred Clark will be re-elected as Halifax County Sheriff.

8:12 PM – PROJECTION: J.T. Davis wins reelection over Jeaneen Abbott in Halifax County District 1 Board of Supervisors Race.

8:15 PM – We’ve got our first incumbent loss of the night. PROJECTION: Orey Hill upsets incumbent Phyllis Smith in Halifax County District 1 School Board Race.

8:25 PM – PROJECTION: Mark Scarce will defeat R.J. Weaver for Pittsylvania County Clerk of Court.

8:32 PM – Wayne Robertson leads Sam Burton by only 2 votes (565-563) with 1 precinct and absentee votes left to come in.

8:40 PM – PROJECTION: Joey Rogers defeats incumbent Barry Bank in Halifax County Board of Supervisors District 5.

8:50 PM – PROJECTION: Jerry Hagerman will be reelected to the Callands-Gretna seat on the PittsCo Board of Supervisors.

8:51 PM – PROJECTION: James Snead will be reelected to the Dan River seat on the PittsCo Board of Supervisors.

8:59 PM – Incumbent Wayne Robertson holds a narrow 619-614 lead over Sam Burton in the Chatham-Blairs District school board race in Pittsylvania County. That’s too close to call. Kate Berger is now in serious danger of losing her reelection bid as Pittsylvania County Treasurer. Our prediction system only gives her a 18% chance of pulling the win out.

9:05 PM – Let’s recap what we have here so far. All Three out of four Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors incumbents return to office (Barber, Snead, Hagerman, Blackstock). The one school board rematch race is too close to call. In Halifax County, incumbent school board member Phyllis Smith lost. Voters reelected J.T. Davis but tossed out incumbent Barry Bank. Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark easily won his reelection bid.

9:10 PM – PROJECTION: Vincent Shorter will defeat incumbent Kate Berger for Pittsylvania County Treasurer.

9:12 PM – PROJECTION: Sam Burton defeats incumbent Wayne Robertson and retakes the PittsCo Chatham-Blairs district school board seat.

9:17 PM – I am RETRACTING my projected win for James Snead in the Dan River District Board of Supervisors race due to data integrity concerns. Developing…

9:27 PM – I honestly have no idea what’s going on with the Dan River District race. Snead is telling people that he lost the election but the vote totals have changed three times in the last 30 minutes. I’m not predicting nor declaring anything in this election yet.

9:45 PM – I’ll go ahead and call it a night here. I’ll say that Joe Davis has defeated incumbent James Snead.

We’ll be watching for the vote canvass on Wednesday. We’ll also have a BreakDown article on the elections coming soon.

Thanks for sticking with SouthsideCentral for the best in election coverage!
