Public Safety’s Letter to Danville City Council

At Tuesday night’s Danville City Council meeting. Fire Captain Daryl Turpin and Police Captain Tommy Merricks presented a letter on behalf of public safety employees to council. As a public service, SouthsideCentral is proud to publish the letter in its entirety for you to read.

    If these examples are factually accurate, they are astounding and represent a horrendous problem with the implementation of decompression. It would have been simple enough, I think, to have created rules that indicated for instance that the Captain who makes less than if he had not been promoted had their decompression calculated both ways and that she would get the higher of the alternatives. It’s a bit trickier with the officers of different ranks, but it is pretty nonsensical to have the officer making more than his cpl and slightly more than his sgt.
