Danville Airport Commission – LIVE! (3/10/15)

We’re LIVE! at Danville Regional Airport for today’s Airport Commission meeting. You will never see coverage of meetings like this on other local media sources. Let’s get started…

Charles Ellis chairs today’s meeting. Transportation Director Marc Adelman sits to his right. Ever present assistant city attorney Alan Spencer looks on.

I’m not sure who is the chairman. Before the meeting, Marc Adelman said Hampton Wilkins was going to chair the meeting, then came back and said Wilkins wanted Ellis to do it.

(L-R) On the far side of the table, we have commissioners Stephen Daniel, Helm Dobbins, Hampton Wilkins and Gene Jackson.

Joe Miller is in the blue and gray striped shirt. John Lippert & Donna Benz aren’t here today. I’ve only seen Benz at one meeting and will check on her attendance rate.

Libby Rembold takes her notes.

During the public comment period, Libby Rembold makes a good point when she says that the agenda only has the discussion topics and no follow-up information. since they run the fixed-base operator business at the airport, she has no chance to see what they will be talking about and it can directly affect their business. Some of the commissioners agree that’s a good point and ask Marc Adelman to include more item information on upcoming agendas.

Richard Bailey has it made. Heh.

J.R. Atkinson wants to rent his 80 x 80 hangar exclusively. The going rental rate is $1015 and his company is asking for a rent reduction to $815 per month. He’s only using about half the rent now but is buying a new airplane. He’s paying $400 for half of the hangar rental while the airport rents the other half out to temporary tenants. It was shown that $1015 is a more than fair market rate compared to other airports. The commission asks Airport Director Marc Adelman to get comparative rental rates.

The discussion moves to the budget process as Danville City Council will go over the Transportation department’s budget. Here’s a look at their capital improvement plan.

This capital improvement plan went over well at City Council’s first budget work session. We’re done with this meeting and we’ve got more coming up on SouthsideCentral!
