Danville City Council – LIVE! (3/3/15)

We’re LIVE! at Danville City Hall for tonight’s Danville City Council meeting. This article is complete so enjoy the recap.

We start off with a proclamation for Girl Scout week. They lead the Pledge of Allegiance. All council members get a box of cookies. Next, Duke Energy’s regional manager Davis Montgomery makes his monthly recap to council.

He talks about the settlement offer to the US government and work on Abreu-Grogan Park repair from the coal ash recovery job. Montgomery hints that settlement of damages may be coming soon. Fred Shanks asks about the settlement process. Gary Miller says he’s frustrated by the slow settlement process. Montgomery says that Duke Energy has made settlement proposals and hints that the ball is in the city’s court now. City Council bristles somewhat at that.

Council shows frustration at the 13 month time between the coal ash spill and now. They complain about the lack of a settlement. Larry Campbell tries to bring up a possibility of the coal ash spill being involved in the current water taste and odor issue. My head explodes. Seriously.

Moving to regular business. Money is moved to pay for the final connection on the Riverwalk Trail. First readings for grants and $1.5 million for. Job Bust paybacks. We’ll have more on this.

Around the horn time. City Manager Joe King says that first draft of the budget is in tonight’s work session. James Buckner wishes his wife a happy birthday. Alonzo Jones talks about American National Bank’s Black History Month program.

Moving to the work session now…
