The superintendent search continues…

Here’s the latest from on the search process for the new Danville school superintendent…

The Danville Public Schools just issued this press release…

Monday night, the School Board formally initiated its search for a new superintendent by receiving a presentation from Dr. Kevin Castner and Dr. E. Wayne Harris of BWP and Associates (www.BWPassociates.com), a national search firm which specializes in assisting boards that are seeking superintendents. They have been involved in several successful Virginia Superintendent searches in recent years.
“Community engagement is an essential part of this process,” said Ed Polhamus, School Board Chair. A critical first step is to identify the characteristics the Board will be looking for in a new superintendent. The objectives of the public engagement process are three fold:
• To learn the strengths, needs, and issues of our school system so we can better recruit a slate of candidates to meet our needs.
• To be able to describe the District’s strengths, needs and issues to the recruited candidates.
• To engage in the process in such a way that will build community understanding and support for the search.
“The most important decision the Board ever makes is selecting the right superintendent for our school division,” continued Polhamus. “We are requesting assistance by inviting members of both the Danville Public Schools community and all citizens of Danville to participate in stakeholder meetings and open community forums.”
There will be open Community Forums during the evening hours on October 6 and 7 and interviews with school system staff and selected community members during the daytime on the same dates. Details will follow.
Additionally, a community survey, Finding a Leader for Our Future, has been created and will be available at all meetings, and in the main office of each school. This survey, as well as additional details regarding the superintendent search, is also available on the school system web site. http://www.danvillepublicschools.org/. The survey deadline is October 31, 2014
Results of the information received from the Community Engagement process will be presented to the Board along with a draft profile of the leadership characteristics for the next superintendent by BWP at the November Board meeting.

And here’s the press release on those meeting times…

The Danville City School Board has initiated its search for a new superintendent and is inviting all community members to participate in a meeting with the consultants from BWP & Associates to help identify characteristics sought in the new superintendent. The community is invited to attend one of the following public open forums scheduled on:
Monday, October 6, 2014 – Langston Focus School, Auditorium – 7:00-8:00 PM and Tuesday, October 7, 2014 – Bonner Middle School, Auditorium – 7:00-8:00 PM.
If unable to attend an open forum, community members are asked to complete the online survey regarding the Superintendent Search, which will be available on the division’s website http://www.danvillepublicschools.org/ as well as paper copies which will be available at the main office of each school.

Since we have already gone through this process, I’m guessing that the consultants want to hear directly from the public. Anyway, the clock continues to tick.
