BREAKING: Plane Crash at VIR property

5:30 PM – We have confirmed reports of a WW2 type of plane that has crashed on Virginia International Raceway (VIR) property.

5:40 PM – Multiple fire departments are enroute to VIR.

5:48 PM – 1 confirmed dead, air transport for injured & small brushfire after plane crash on VIR property.

6:00 PM – A bad car wreck has also happened in Halifax County on Red Bank Rd. Responders are asking for air transport for the victim with the driver being trapped in the vehicle.

6:10 PM – Reports coming of a 2nd fatality in the plane crash – these reports have NOT been confirmed.

6:25 PM – Plane was doing stunt flying at VIR. It came over the villas, did a barrel roll, crashed into the Patriot Course. Large fireball was seen.

6:50 PM – All fires are out. The race course was not active at the time of the crash. There were no spectator injuries. We’re now waiting for confirmation of either one or two fatalities. We’ll update as soon as we get that confirmation.

7:05 PM – The plane that crashed at VIR is associated with TOBC Racing team owner Jon Couch. TOBC Racing has now packed up their trucks and left the track.

7:15 PM – Virginia State Police have confirmed that two people died in the plane crash.
