BREAKING: Coleman resigns from South Boston Town Council

This just in… South Boston Town Council member Margaret Coleman has resigned effective September 1st.

Margaret Coleman will be relocating outside of South Boston and has tendered her resignation. Since it’s less than 90 days from the next general election, here’s the timeframe of replacement and election courtesy of South Boston Town Clerk Jane Jones.

  • Sept. 15th – Town petitions court to issue a writ of election to fill the position. (15 days after the resignation is official)
  • Sept. 15th – Oct. 15th – Council seeks candidates, interviews, etc.
  • Oct. 15th – Council  makes appointment to fill vacancy until the 2nd next general election, November 2015 (45 days after the resignation is official)
  • November 2015 – General Election – special election to fill seat – Term will run Nov. 2015 thru through June 30, 2016
  • May 2016 – Council Election – new 4-year term for the seat. Also elections for the seats of Ed Owens, Bob Hughes & Tina Younger.
