The South Boston Town Council Goes Badass!

And gets absolutely nothing accomplished by going said badass.

Council has harsh words for Comcast rep

While you’re reading this article, imagine the Comcast guy dressed up as a brick wall. That’s how effective South Boston Town Council is against him.

We’ve got some great badassery here from the council. Let’s take a look at some of it.

Coleman Speece:

I’ve had more criticism from my constituents about Comcast than anything else we’ve dealt with over the years. This is about customer service. I can’t swallow your rhetoric. Our people feel betrayed, and they are not happy.

The Comcast reply was something like “Damn. That’s a shame. The office is still closing. Blow it out your ass.”

(Editor’s Note: Everytime we mention Coleman Speece, we’re obliged to link back to when his wife Barbara tried to poke SouthsideCentral anonymously but got busted while doing it.)

Ed Owens:

I will tell you this — if I’m still on Council when your franchise agreement comes up again, I’m going to be the most negative man you’ve seen.

The Comcast reply was something like “Damn. That’s a shame. The office is still closing. Blow it out your ass.”

By the way, in 2025 when the next franchise agreement comes up? South Boston Town Council will sign it assuming that Comcast and cable are even viable then. We’re also assuming that South Boston will still be viable by then (heh). They pretty much have to because there is no chance that another cable provider will be there for competition and the franchise agreement is pretty much a formality. And if Ed Owens is still on South Boston in 2025, that’s too damn long for anybody to be in elected office.

Bill Snead:

I do not think you have lived up to your agreement.

The Comcast reply was something like “Damn. That’s a shame. The office is still closing. Blow it out your ass.”

Are you getting the idea yet?

Ladies and gentlemen, Special Guest Star Halifax County Board of Supervisors member Doug Bowman:

Blah. Blah. Same Stuff. We don’t like Comcast. (paraphrased, but pretty close!)

The Comcast reply was something like “Damn. That’s a shame. The office is still closing. Blow it out your ass.”

Council members Bob Hughes & Tina Younger were left out of the News & Record’s article (shame on them) but the Gazette-Virginian has some of their quotes.

Bob Hughes:

Don’t we deserve an answer with more specifics to justify foot traffic and/or reasons why things are done, in all fairness?

The Comcast reply was something like “Damn. That’s a shame. The office is still closing. Blow it out your ass.”

Sorry, Bob. Comcast is a private business. It’s their decision. That’s how the free enterprise system works.

Tina Younger:

If I have to change my name on an account, I can’t do it over the phone or online.

The Comcast reply was something like “Damn. That’s a shame. The office is still closing. Blow it out your ass.”

I’m not really sure on this one. People don’t really change their name much. Maybe it’s a good idea that people with that situation actually have to go Danville when that happens… you know, get themselves out of South Boston for a few hours.

That, my friends, is a whole lot of badass. One final message from Comcast about how much that badassery affected their plans to close the South Boston office…

“Damn. That’s a shame. The office is still closing. Blow it out your ass.”
