McDonaldLandGate

(Editor’s Note: We’re catching up after a few days of “actual reality before virtual reality”.)

Worst “-gate” scandal title ever, but we move on. So, the two McDonalds in South Boston and the one in Clarksville sent a bunch of employees packing last week. Outrage and protests followed. Let’s take a look at it…

We’ll focus first on the South Boston News & Record’s coverage of this story because we can have more fun it…

Not lovin’ it

I think the stagehands are rolling out a Big Board for this one…

  • Companies can fire people for no reason at all unless it’s discriminatory by law. They can fire people for stupid reason that are unjust. I know that personally.
  • Over 80% of the comments that I’ve read or heard have said that the customer service was crappy at these stores. I know for a fact that I’ve been treated poorly by at least one of those employees in the photo.
  • If you’re going to do the media tour (which they did to booth Halifax County newspapers and WSET-TV), wouldn’t you at least dress business casual so that you would like professional? How about smiling for the camera? That News & Record photo could easily be mistaken for a police lineup.
  • In this article, Tom McLaughlin should be nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his research. He went to the Urban Dictionary to cite a definition for the word “ratchetness”. Since McLaughlin is as white as a mayonnaise sandwich (just like me), he spelled the term incorrectly every time that he used it.

Next, let’s take a look at the Gazette-Virginian’s take on the story and a fresh .

Former workers stunned at McDonald’s firings

Of course, it’s racist…

…According to Tucker, he and the other terminated employees have contacted the local chapter of NAACP to look into the matter and they plan to file a complaint with the organization…

Oh shut up. The NAACP isn’t going to do a damned thing with this.

You folks have fun with the always-hilarious Facebook comment section on that article, ok?

One of the fired employees is named Destiny.

Question: is anyone ever called Destiny *before* they become a stripper?

Dead on with your comments, especially the photo, I applaud move by owner despite blowback he surely expected he would receive.

If he had been more clear that this was about bad performance instead of being so vague, there would have been very little blowback.

  • They have no ground to stand. I once went through the drive thru( Riverdale) rather late one evening. All four employee’s were outside of the restaurant smoking. I had to wait until their break was over to order. Sad. Great job whoever fired them.

This was stupid of the business owner and his management. Yes, I think the chances are high that he had a very good reason for the firings (the bar is very low), but it looks bad in this day and age when they say the folks in that picture don’t fit the “profile” of employee they want and the group looks like that. He has damaged his franchise when a little forethought about the firings would have made this a non-issue.

Quality of service and staff has improved DRAMATICALLY since these changes were made… and racial makeup the same as before…. sorry race hustlers
