Festival In The Park – 2013 – LIVE!

SouthsideCentral is heading to Danville’s Festival In The Park and we’ll be posting our observations here. Keep checking in for the latest…

12:00N – Heading out the door. Wondering how parking will be…

12:30P – Parking not bad. Ballou Park shopping center’s first four rows blocked off for cruise-in. Wasted parking spaces.

12:45P – Crowds down significantly from this point last year, but that’s to be expected with light rain.

1:00P – Health fair is filled with vendors, though I’m still unsure how this fits the Festival theme. Coming out, I clearly see how Festival can return to its stature of before. 80% of the park is unused. Reach out to businesses and fill it up.

1:15P – Down the crafter’s row and back up. Good variety of things, and some buying going on.

1:30P – Final stop is the food vendors, and it looks like the same food vendor run as before. The rain is holding business down. This is another opportunity for Festival to improve. They’ve got the potential to draw big crowds and there is plenty of room available to have local food vendors add to the mix.

1:45P – I’m skipping the kids play area as that doesn’t attract me at all, but it looks well set-up. Heading back to my parking space, I notice (like I did last year) that there are plenty of people walking across W. Main St. and dodging traffic with no official crosswalk or traffic direction. Sooner or later, somebody’s going to get hurt there.

That’s it. We’ll do a Festival recap later this weekend.
