TYOB!: This weekend’s events!

If you stay at home this weekend, you’ve got nobody to blame but yourself.

As usual for this time of year in the SouthsideCentral region, the calendar is loaded with fall festivals & events. Let’s take a look at this weekend’s events and look at Things You Oughta Be doing…

It’s going to be a busy weekend…

  • “BBQ for Broadway” is happening in downtown Danville on Saturday 9/15 from 10A – 2P. It’s a fundraiser for the Union Street Theatre, and Melissa Charles knows how to put together a great street festival. You can get a great BBQ lunch as well as support the terrific things that Union Street Theatre is doing for Danville. For details, go to the Union Street Theatre website. I’ll see you there early in the morning…
  • Eden’s RiverFest runs on Friday 9/14 from 5P – 10P then on Saturday from 10A – 10P. RiverFest is one of the best fall festivals in the entire region and I guarantee that you’ll easily spend at least 4 hours there. I’ll see you there Friday night at Stage #1 for “Too Much Sylvia” playing and I’ll be back all day Saturday having a great time. Make your way to the Leaksville section of Eden and get ready for a great time. Free shuttles are running from the Kingsway Plaza so you don’t have to worry about parking. For more information, go to the RiverFest website.
  • If you’re in the mood for some wine tasting & fun, you’ll want to head to Altavista’s Avoca Museum on Saturday 9/15 for this year’s Harvest Jubilee & Wine Festival. Seven wineries will be there sampling their products and there’s plenty of other stuff to do at the beautiful Avoca Museum. This event is also kid-friendly as they’ll have a children’s area set up as well. For more details, go the the Avoca Museum’s website.
  • Feeling the need for speed? Then you’ll want to head to Virginia International Raceway this weekend because the American Le Mans series makes their VIR debut. The events start on Wednesday 9/12, but the big 4 hour VIR 240 Le Mans race is on Saturday 9/15. Tickets are available at the gate and for more details (and to see the schedule of events), go to VIR’s website.
  • It’s county fair season and the Danville-Pittsylvania County Fair starts its 9-day run on Friday 9/14 and runs nightly through Saturday 9/22. For more information, go to the DPC Fairgrounds‘ website. We’re hoping for more fair coverage throughout the next week as well.

I’m sure there’s more stuff going on in the region but that’s enough for now. If you know of anything else or have comments, we want to hear from you!
