Danville Regional Medical Center vs. Centra

Danville Regional Medical Center seems to be willing to try anything to block Centra’s plans.

Residents debate what’s best for health care in Danville

We’re up to the “Allowing Centra to come to Danville will cost jobs!” speech. 🙄 Well, nothing else has worked for them to try and change the public’s opinion, eh? Here’s a novel thought to blow that argument out of the water… Centra would hire local people for their new facility! Anyway, you just have to love a public hearing like this when DRMC keeps their employees on-the-clock if they “choose” to go and speak their opinion. Gee, I wonder how unbiased they were when the hospital’s CEO was staring at them?

I firmly believe that this entire “Certificate of Public Need” process is a crock of horsecrap anyway. If I want to spend the money and open up any other kind of business, there’s no governmental regulatory board that has to approve my plans. The justification for this process is that with too many medical facilities for too few customers, the prices would be artificially raised to ensure that they’d make a profit. I just don’t buy that line of reasoning anymore. Competition is a good thing.

Danville Regional Medical Center is no longer a community-based organization that is supposed to help the community. It’s now a business that is supposed to turn a profit. Let the free market system determine if Centra’s new business venture works or not.
