Thumbs! (2/13 edition)

It’s time to use our Thumbs!

Shall we get the Thumbs! started? You betcha!

  • Thumbs UP! to Danville City Manager Lyle Lacy for a refreshing bit of honesty and candor. At the last Danville City Council meeting, Lacy admitted that he made some wrong decisions in the snow removal operations for Danville’s last winter storm. It’s rather refreshing to hear a public official accept responsibility for bad decisions and apologize in front of everybody instead of trying to pass the blame on.  In related news, a stupid Thumbs UP! to Mother Nature for producing a beautiful snowfall this morning that lasted about 8 hours before it disappeared completely.
  • Thumbs UP! to Danville dentist Dr. Paul Grekos. He’s been named as head coach for the Chatham High School football team. Grekos has been juggling his job as a dentist while coaching girls’ softball, JV football, and he was even an assistant coach for the football team before taking on the head coach job. Grekos was a standout football player at GWHS in the early 80’s and it’s great to see somebody like him give back to the kids.
  • Thumbs UP! to Rockingham County (NC) Sheriff Sam Page as he declares his candidacy for re-election. Page has been a great sheriff in his first term and keeps a high public presence. Page will have some competition is this election cycle, so it should be a good race.
  • Thumbs UP! to Tom Perriello for scheduling a town hall meeting in Brookneal this coming Tuesday. Brookneal’s been hurting over the past five years so it’s good to see a elected official do a meeting in a town of 1250 people. (This event hasn’t been confirmed by Perriello’s staff yet, but it comes from a very credible source.)

Anything going down this cycle?

  • Thumbs DOWN! to the Virginia House of Delegates for actually passing the most idiotic piece of legislation of the year. The man who introduced this bill said it could stop the “Mark of the Beast” part of the book of Revelations. Dear God (no pun intended)

And that’s a look at our Thumbs! for this edition. Comments? Thumbs! of your own? You know what to do.
