Sources say that the medical helicopter landed at the airport to get them out quickly.

According to two of our good sources, an off-duty Danville firefighter and his child were severely injured in a 4-wheeler accident east of Danville. They were taken to a regional hospital by helicopter.

We’ll have more on this story as information develops.

UPDATE #1: At this time, we’re unable to confirm that a child was involved in this accident so we are retracting that until it’s verified.

UPDATE #2: The Danville firefighter injured in the accident has been identified as Al Sims. He fractured a vertebra and has had an operation on his arm. His 9-year old daughter was on the ATV with him but was not injured.
