VDOT has just issued a press release about a bad wreck in Martinsville. UPDATE after the cutline.
From VDOT:
On US-220 (Virginia Ave) in the County of Henry, in the vicinity of Rt. 1210E/W (Henry County), motorists can expect potential delays due toa vehicle accident. The south right lane is closed.
A state police spokesman has confirmed an off-duty trooper on his motorcycle was involved in the crash.
UPDATE: The off-duty trooper died on the way to the hospital. SouthsideCentral is not releasing the name until it’s been released by the State Police. State Police have released the trooper’s name. Ralph Carroll Sr. (59) was killed in the accident.
